Dear jchenglong, I met the same problem in last night.(Correct time should be this morning).
My conclusion is listed as below:
1, The status of "Hidden" cannot be supported by SUSE 10.3 perfectly. If the SSID is hidden, the signal strength must be weak, Even the status in Windows environment is good.
2, WEP keys cannot be supported by SUSE 10.3 perfectly, too. WPA2 is the best choice.
Based on upper conclusions, if you have rights to setup wireless router, then, please perform below steps:
1, The status of "Hidden" should be closed. The SSID should be visible.
2, Use WPA2.
At 3:00 Am in this morning, I got the best status with upper modified method.
As you said, you are using wireless network in your school, I think, you should have no rights to setup the wireless router.
Therefore, you can give up or find a better software. I still think, a fit software can solve this problem.
