教主, Fleta兄, bad news!
My experiments to resize ext3 partitions with both Knoppix and SystemRescueCD have negative results.
In QTparted, the resize option is faded. While in parted, the resize operation is not executed even I clearly supplied the relevant parameters.
If I create a new ext2 partition, then everything is fine. On the other hand, ext2resize only support ext2. http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Ins ... izing_the_Partition also instructs you to convert ext3 to ext2 before the resize operation. Well, in this case, it makes no differences with parted/QTparted to resize ext2 partitions.
In short, I am unable to resize a ext3 partition without any conversions. How come the parted homepage describe ext2/ext3 can be resized under restriction?
Did we miss anything?
I made a fundamental mistake! Website always provide information for the latest version, but LiveCDs may be not.
Although Knoppix-3.7 and the SystemRescueCD-0.2.15 are the latest release, the packages supplied are not necessarily the latest, esp. in Debian. On the other hand, SystemRescueCD is gentoo based but 0.2.15 is released for a period of time.
I have a visit to distrowatch.com this morning and found that parted has released a new version 1.6.20. Then I immediately check the version that supplied with Knoppix. My goodness, it is only 1.6.11.
1.6.11 is provided in Debian testing branch and 1.6.19 is provided in Debian experimental branch in which additional package (libreadline5) may be needed from the unstable branch. I have downloaded these packages and I shall repeat the experiment again when I return to the office on next Tue.
Hope the newer version of parted can resize ext3. |
