who knows, why not ask in gftp-user mailing list?
if you are not using deb , why ask in a debian forum?

why borther yourself to compile it.

The offical website even provided the deb packages already.

If you really want to know the reason, why not check the source tarball directly?

我用官方 deb 装是有中文界面的啊？
你用 tar ball 装的话，是不是没有 configure 好呢？
