转贴-更多发行版本拒绝使用XFree86 4.4

　(Linuxbyte.net 2月19日 报道) 继前日MandrakeSoft拒绝在其新版本的Mandrake Linux 10.0中使用XFree86 4.4版本以来, 今日更多的发行版本以及开源供应商明确表态拒绝使用XFree86 4.4版本.

　Fedora Core计划目前表示, 为其"长期"解决方案着想, 该计划考虑支持多种X11应用工具, 其中包括freedesktop的libXaw和libX11. Fedora Core的开发团体已经展开内部讨论其可行性.

　RedHat公司也表示XFree86的新协议与其公司的开源方针相违背, 近期没有计划将 XFree86 4.4版本带入其任何一个发行版本中.

　Debian.org的回答则更加干脆: Debian 将不会接受任何1.1版本的协议, full stop. (1.1版本的协议便是XFree86 4.4开始采用的新协议)

　Gentoo Linux表示继续使用4.3版本的XFree86. 同时将寻找其他解决方案.

　OpenBSD的答复则是:"像其他计划一样"不会考虑使用4.4版本XFree86. 该计划负责人表示:"每隔8年我们当中(指开源业界)就有一些人想将自由软件变得'不自由', 因为他们感觉没有得到足够的名誉."

　其他Linux发行版本虽然没有及时表态,相信在未来几天内陆续会有其他发行版本表态站队, 到oracle截稿时间为止, XFree86.org还没有对此做出反应. Linuxbyte.net将为您跟踪报道.

XFree86 Project License Modification
[29 January 2004]

The XFree86 Project, Inc is announcing that it has made a change to its license effective with the Third Release Candidate for the 4.4.0 series.

The modifications to the base license are motivated by the Project's desire to strengthen its stated policy of "You can do what you like with the code except claim you wrote it ".

The full announcement conncerning the license change can be found here. Discussion of the modified license should be done on Forum@XFree86.org. List subscription is not required but encouraged.
