I don't fully catch your point.  What do you mean "because of the server"?  Because of its speed?  As you already familiar with LFS and Gentoo, I think you should experience systems based on LFS or Gentoo will run much faster.

Administrative tools are basically the same and security fixes are provided by distribution vendors.

Therefore, it does not really matter whether the server is Debian/Fedora or whatever.  It is up to the administrator's choice and his familiarity on the system being used.

Can you compare Debian with Redhat Enterprise Edition for being a web server?

今天装了debian，gnome。apt真是太方便了，呵呵。感觉就象地主老财。说：茶！ 茶就来了~~
饭！ 饭就来了~~呵呵这样会把人养懒了。
有时候太自动化了，今天apt一个vsftp，本来还想设置一下，一看提示，自己就帮我设置好了~呵呵弄得我有点不太适应阿。
一点感觉不爽的是速度感觉慢。不知道是gnome的事，还是使用文泉驿字体的事。还有就是用惯了kde了，还不太习惯。

recently, I installed RedHat AS4 for a company, but I really cannot tell the reason of my choice
