<fbancilhon> Hachette: you could be happy soon
<ShiyuTang> And Pablo, it is the time to do some work for l10n, especially write some config files for different languages.
<fbancilhon> we dont like patents but we are not that worried
<fbancilhon> ShiyuTang case taken
< ooh> what if the EU goes all USA on the patent front?
<Onno> Two monitors work but. Well on my PC not on the laptop. But it is only extending the desktop and that isn't practical because then a window get spread over the two. I need two seperate desktops so you can open cleanly the window. I know its maybe because of ATI !
<fbancilhon> it will hurt everyone not just open source, not just mandrake
<imacgreg> I wouldn't worry much about patents because there is the "prior art" issue.
<fbancilhon> we'll take your 2 monitor question off line
*** christrevor has quit (Quit: christrevor)
<luca> Would it be possible to implement "roadmaps" during the development process, to avoid "last-minute" feature additions?
<bjtracy> for newbies to Linux/Mandrake how about some type of tutorial like you can find on Linux.org but geared towards Mandrake
<fbancilhon> luca I like your idea
<Onno> Belgium will keep voting against the patent issue. Ive also been active on that part... And who knows what will happen the comming months
<fbancilhon> bjtracy we are looking at that too
<Janfi> about the capital increase...who is the future shareholder ? Is MDK will remain a french (or european) company ?
<ShiyuTang> Do you think about more tests for MDK 101? I think RC1 is buggy and I'm now using Windows XP in this chatroom.
<bjtracy> thnx,,,,I really enjoy Mandrake
<newimr> are the rumors of a wikipedia cd with mdk true?
<esfa> A few months ago, Mdk announced the hiring of a Club Community manager. It seems it's not yet done. Why ?
<fbancilhon> we already have shareholders from all over the world, we belong to shareholders, users, contributors, etc
<fbancilhon> club manager: it's taking more time, we should close in December
<ShiyuTang> Mandrakeclub's interface could be localized to more languages, why not do it?
<bjtracy> is Mandrake listed on the NYSE?
<fbancilhon> wikipedia : we'd love to do something, there are complex issues
*** netskaven has joined #club
<Onno> bjtracy mandrake is listed on French stock market
<bjtracy> as what
<netskaven> hell-o!
<Onno> just type on euronext.com mandrake
<fbancilhon> Mandrake is on the pink sheet in NY
<bjtracy> thnx
<fbancilhon> Club interface : we'd love to do more!
<Janfi> A suggest : I think that a lower price for silver can increase the quantity of silver members. You lose individually but win on the quantity...
<fbancilhon> what's your price?
<Onno> 80 €
<Janfi> I agree...80, 90 MAX
<fbancilhon> I'm listening
<Onno> I think you should get rid of al those levels
<fbancilhon> and put everything gold?
<Onno> Just one level for all...
<imacgreg> I have heard, from IRC channels, that more people would be willing to join Mandrakeclub if the price was lower.
*** Lorenzo has joined #club
<Onno> yes. But not the gold price... 80 €. I think a lot of people feel now that they are second or third class users
<ShiyuTang> Would MDK developers create their own blog?
<fbancilhon> still listening, this is a good debate
*** beuz_ has joined #club
<Onno> Free Software is about sharing... Why create then classes between them.
<fbancilhon> there are blog on our wiki
<bjtracy> my opinion,,going one level would not be good , , people like options
<luca> I don't mind different levels, actually
<bjtracy> but more for the dollar
<Onno> An other idee that I have. Mandrake user should be able to adopt newbies via een mandrake Jabber server
<fbancilhon> we agree with the more for the dollar, we want to keep delivering more
< ooh> in my view everyone is the same class, but higher level gets you more support (commercial cd's on torrent)
<imacgreg> Yes, options are good. I feel it is good to have different levels. A student may not need all of the benefits that aomeone else would want.
<fbancilhon> will look at the newbies adoption
<newimr> as a standard user, i dont feel any lower, especially since i don't feel silver users get that much more for their money.
<Onno> So if you got a stupid question then you should be able to discus it with somebody. Maybe there is even a form of payment involved here... Sort of IM knowlegde service
<bjtracy> but for any level, , all the support one needs , , this would help convert a lot of other users (my opinion)
< ooh> I think I would have been cheeper off with windows, instead of the 120 euro a year, but now I get so much more ;-)
<fbancilhon> glad to hear
<esfa> what 's new about a monthly fee ?
<Janfi> some of my friends don"t move to MDK because when they needs packages, the club is the best way. But the first "access" to club is 60€. It's important for new users and without club, they can't discover all the positive points of MDK. Perhaps reduces the price of all levels by 30€ ?
<fbancilhon> we're working on the monthly payment, but banks are a real pain
< ooh> I agree that lower entry level would probably help get more people on club
<fbancilhon> the price structure works today, so we want to be careful here
<imacgreg> Pooh: True, and then they can upgrade later.
<ShiyuTang> Some Linux distributions have more beautiful interface than MDK, such as SuSE, LinSpire and so on. Do you think about improve your user interface?
<fbancilhon> would a different price per country make sense?
<AnneW> If it can be done I think that lots of people will afford a monthly payment when they can't afford a yearly one
< ooh> can't you use proxy companies in different countries, for monthly payments using local bank systems?
<Onno> No that diffrent price per country would make people angry
<fbancilhon> ShiyuTang look is a matter of taste
<fbancilhon> we like our look, and we'll keep improving it
<newimr> One question that join jafi question: does mandrakeonline give acces to all packages or only security updates? since it's only 20 a year, it could be interresting to them.
*** Tom_Debruyne_723 has joined #club
<imacgreg> Yes, a monthly payment is a great idea. My sister would join Mandrakeclub if she could pay monthly. A yearly payment is too expensive for her.
<fbancilhon> Pooh we have 140 countries!
<Janfi> OFFTOPIC : what about a montly chat with MDK staff ? It's interesting for community, and for company no ?
<fbancilhon> imacgreg : we agree, we're are trying hard
< ooh> hmm, why not just start with the top 10?
*** Vincent_SAMUEL_364 has joined #club
<fbancilhon> Janfi good, what do people think?
<luca> I'd like such an idea.
<netskaven> it's a good idea, contact with community
< ooh> sure
<bjtracy> like the monthly chat idea
<Jacques_DAVID> Yes monthly chat is good
<Onno> What maybe would also be intressting is how people use Mandrake. Sort of guide books. What do they use and for wath purpose. A bit like the businus story's
<fbancilhon> what do people think of the sponsorship program?
< ooh> is sponsorship the right word?
<fbancilhon> that's what we use
< ooh> I couldn't understand the idea behind it very well
<luca> It's a reasonable idea
<imacgreg> Sponsorship program: I like it. But, I have heard some people complain that people will recommend just to get a reward.
< ooh> because of that word
*** Vincent_SAMUEL_364 has quit (Quit: Vincent_SAMUEL_364)
<fbancilhon> Pooh we'll clarify
<ShiyuTang> monthly is a good idea, but if one only wants a new version of MDKlinux and only pay one month's fee, how do prevent such things?
<Onno> You sign a year contract
<fbancilhon> 5 more minutes to go
<Pooh> as a general comment, I get the feeling that a lot of new stuff in mdk first gets posted and then later the documentation is published
<Onno> Although I personal don't like it
<Janfi> can we retrieve all the chat after done ? I'm sorry I must go and it's very interesting...
<Pooh> I think it should be the other way around ;-)
<luca> What about management-developer-community relationship? I mean, there have been several problems in the past regarding that. How can this situation be improved?
<Janfi> Good bye all, see you next month ;-)
<ShiyuTang> The most thing I want to tell you is that you should patch Freetype as soon as possible. That's Pablo's work!
<fbancilhon> luca that's why we want to put someone explicitely in charge of this
<Onno> Would it also be possible to have an much more easy interface to repport bugs...
<fbancilhon> we'll tel Pablo
<AnneW> Can this chatroom have the option to turn on recording the chat, please?
<Pooh> Unno: good idea
<Onno> I'm willing sometimes to repport a bug. Like on my laptop. But I'm complety dazzled by the interface...
<fbancilhon> AnneW we'll look at this
<ShiyuTang> And also this chat is fruitful. I think we can do this monthly.
<fbancilhon> Onno what's wrong with Bugzilla?
<imacgreg> A monthly chat like this is a good idea. And, I feel it would benefit Mandrakelinux distributions.
<fbancilhon> ok, you guys won the right to a monthly chat
<beuz_> Me too, Onno and my english is pooor, bugzilla eis too hard for me
<Onno> Casual users who only want to repport one bug they have won't do it because Bugzilla is to much
<Onno> And besides I forgot again my password for the thing
<fbancilhon> two more questions or comments
<Pooh> the problem with reporting bugs is the selection of which package and which version of mdk
<Onno> It should be interfaced at least with the membership account
<Pooh> GTG, diner is ready ;-)
<Pooh> bye
<ShiyuTang> Bye!
<fbancilhon> bye, thanks to all!
<EagleLIONHEART> bye
<bjtracy> thnx
<beuz_> bye
