First I apologize I can not type Chinese, because I have no Chinese input now.
I wonder is there a way to use Chinese input in English Enviroment KDE, like in Microsoft Windows, we can use "ctrl+space" or "ctrl+shift" to switch different input methods.
I have fcitx installed in my computer, but in order to use fcitx, I have to set the locale and LC_Type or something to zh_CN which will change my desktop Enviroment to Chinese.
Can I use fcitx or other Chinese input method in English enviroment?
In your own drectory, add following words into .bashrc:
export XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx
In etc/sysconfig/i18, add these words:
GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
XIM=fcitx
ENC=gb
XIM_PROGRAM="fcitx"
XMODIFIERS="@im=fcitx"
Restart X. Should be OK, that's what I use.
If still not OK, maybe you can try to change:
LC_Type=zh_CN
only change this line won't change your english environment.
I have the same problem as Warlock's. I fail to input CHINESE. the GUI I use is GNOME.the system language is english but I wanna input chinese in a GUI which is english.
I wonder whether I can get it without installing fcitx? what is chinput?

Actually, I find that Chinese Input is not stable and easily to crash in my MD
when my laptop has been running some softwares at the mean time, such as Openoffice, stardict, xmule and gaim, suddently, I can switch on Chinese input when I press ctrl+space, it just flashes the icon and crashes soon, frequently.
