First of all, the distribution you are currently trying to install is J2EE and not J2SE. If you intended to install J2SE 1.4.2 only you will have to download standalone J2SE from here:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

Scroll down to the section with title "Download J2SE v 1.4.2_04 " and select "32-bit/64-bit for Windows/Linux/Solaris SPARC SDK"
